Off to Peru

These two handsome young Elders are on their way to Peru tomorrow (Monday the 7th).  They have been together for 3 1/2 month in Birmingham, Alabama waiting for their visas.  Elder King's (left) came through, Brady's hasn't but the mission president is confident it will be coming soon so he is sending both of them.  We got to talk to Brady tonight for a little while.  He is excited to go, but also very sad to leave the people he has been working with.  So sad, in fact that when he first got the news he was leaving he couldn't sleep for a few nights thinking about leaving Alabama.  He tried to describe for us the joy he has been feeling sharing the gospel with these wonderful people, and he summed it up well by saying this:  "If you think you can make yourself happy, you can't.  If you think you can get what you want and then help others, you're wrong.  The only way to be happy is to help others find true joy by sharing the gospel.  Then, without even looking for it, you are happy.  Joy finds you without you even trying."  I'm paraphrasing what he said, but that was the general message.  He has felt the true joy it talks about in the scriptures, (and if your joy be great with one soul, how great shall be your joy if ye shall bring many souls unto me) and I'm so excited for him!  They will be great missionaries in Trujillo, Peru.  President and Sister Turk, get ready, here they come!
