As Mom said, Logan had a bad 30 foot fall while hiking Saturday evening. It took hours for the rescuers to find him and helicopter him out. Several broken bones, dislocations, and at least one surgery later, he is still in the hospital and will need a lot more care and recovery. With both wrists and both knee caps broken, he will be very incapacitated for quite a while. Since he also landed on his face he has a broken nasal passage, a chipped tooth and swollen lips. He is one banged up boy. But he is one lucky and blessed boy. The Lord was definitely watching out for him. We will all continue praying for him and for the whole family. They need a lot of strength and courage right now. We love you, Logan, Becky, and the whole Cook family!

Logan and his date were hiking at Roosevelt Lake yesterday. Logan had a bad fall and had to be e-vac-ed out by helicopter. Today he had surgery for two broken wrists, a broken bone in his arm, and still has two broken kneecaps and a broken nasal passage. He is at a Scottsdale hospital. Please remember him and his family in your prayers.

Colby's Goat
This Week
I decided to follow LeNell and just tell you what's been going on this week, since I haven't posted in a while.
- Eli is in baseball and Miranda is in softball. Between 2 games each a week and some practices thrown in, we are gone pretty much every night. It's fun to watch them, though and the evening weather has been so nice we might as well be at the ball field.
- Rob and I are dieting (AGAIN!). We can't seem to keep weight off once we lose it. But we have vowed that it won't happen this time. He has lost 11.5 and I have lost 9 pounds. We have to be able to put our swimsuits on soon!
- We attended the wedding reception Saturday night of one of Rob's assistants. It was very fun with lots of dancing and young people. Everyone dances so different these days...anyway, Rob and I went out to dance a slow song, at least it started out slow... then it turned fast and it was a line dance we didn't know. It looked easy enough so we tried to follow along. We were by FAR the oldest people on the dance floor. After we came back to our table Miranda informed us we didn't dance as well as everyone else. I was not surprised to hear it.
- Last night we went to the piano recital of some friends of ours. The Messina family. They have six kids ages 12 to 22. They all six play the piano like professionals. They took turns performing Mozart, Bach, Chopin and other very complicated songs. Did you ever wish you'd practiced the piano more?
- Our county fair was last weekend. Colby raised a goat at our good friends the Morgan's house, and joined 4-H to be able to show his goat at the fair this year. He had to learn how to raise, groom, and show his goat. He didn't do that well in the competition, but he had fun and learned a new skill. Now he sells the goat and should make a small profit.

PETUNIAS
We brought back a large wooden box from Texas, and I put it on the front porch. I put pumpkins in it in the fall, Christmas items in December, then we filled it with potting soil and I planted some seeds. They did not come up, so I bought some geranium and petunia plants. The geraniums are salmon colored, and some white ones. The petunias are several different shades of lavender. I like the color combination. As I was sitting on the front porch this morning, admiring them, and my roses that are starting to bloom, I began noticing the sweet fragrance of the petunias -- and suddenly I was a 6 or 7 year old girl again, in Eden at my Grandma and Grandpa Hancock's house, looking at and enjoying the scent of petunias. My Grandma had petunias on the south side of her house every year. They were the old-fashioned kind, not as frilly and bright as the ones in the nurseries today, but very fragrant. So now, when I smell petunias, I think of my Grandma. She was a short little lady, with a bent-over back. She always wore an apron, her house was always neat as a pin, even tho the water they used came from a well. No modern conveniences -- a quiet house with no radio, tv, or telephone. There were big salt cedar trees in the front yard -- which Grandma hated and tried to kill with boiling water. When the wind blew, the sound coming from the trees always made me feel sad. The petunias seemed the only bright spot, and to me they were her signiature flower. So what is yours? I love roses, and have for years and years. Let us know which flower you associate yourself with.
ps I was going to put a picture of Grandma on, but picasa just updated and I haven't figured it out yet. sorry
