WHO?

 

 

Today I would like to spotlight Jason. This is an idea I got from and e-mail we received. I put everyone in our family's name in a bowl, and this morning I Picked out Jason's name. The idea is to tell some good things we know about him - comment, PLEASE- then hopefully Jason will read the image-boosting things that are said about him.

I think Jason is a great kid because: he finished what he started, his Eagle project. To be a finisher ranks high in my book. He just started dating, agonized over the dates, asked Breanna for advice on what fun things he and his friends could plan, then agonized some more because he forgot to walk his date to the door: a gentleman is what this world needs more of. He love sports - especially soccer and gives it all he has in the heat of the summer and the cold of January. He is an asset to his team. Plus, the boy can sing. He is in Show Choir. He is dependable and shows up where and when he should, for practices and church responsibilities. All in all he is an all-around great kid. And he is also good-looking. This is my first spotlight. More to come later. When will your turn come around?

It makes her itch

I have to get this down before I forget.  Isabelle was watching videos on my phone this morning.  Some were of Christmas 2009, of her and Miranda and Eli.  This is what she said after watching them:

"I miss Miranda and Eli so much.  Like you have no idea.  It makes me hurt. Sick. It makes me itch."

I think she misses them a little bit.

Cleaning

There are different types of cleaning. There's the "accidental-spillage-so-now-we're-forced-to-clean" cleaning. Like when someone drops a glass and it breaks all over the floor. While you're sweeping up the broken glass you might as well sweep the whole darn floor. Or like this morning when I discovered someone had left the chocolate syrup container upside down in the fridge and it all leaked out. While I was wiping that up and had everything pulled out I might as well clean out the whole darn fridge. Forced cleaning is beneficial, but you feel, well, forced. And you're usually cursing under your breath the whole time so it's a negative experience.

Then there's the "someone's-coming-over-so-we'd-better-make-this-place-look-fit-for-human-habitation" cleaning. I've done that plenty. You usually have a short time to do way too much so you end up hiding things in the oven (yes, I've done that), closets, cabinets, anywhere you can find QUICK. While the result is a clean house on the surface, what lies behind closed doors is SCARY. It can take weeks to recover and have the courage to undo the stashes of piles and hidden messes. I discovered one such hidden paper pile recently and was amazed at the things I had forgotten were there.

Then there's the "I'm-in-the-mood-to-really-get-this-place-deep-down-clean" cleaning. This is by far the best option. It's self-motivated by the person who's actually going to do the cleaning. It's usually accompanied by a happy, goal-oriented spirit of energy and inspiration. A lot can usually get accomplished in a short time due to the energetic nature with which you go about your task. You see results quickly which motivates you to keep going, sometimes lasting for days but ending in a sparkling, shiny house. If you turn on some fun music, burn some good-smelling candles, and open the shades, you can actually dance around and maybe even enjoy the experience. That's what they say, anyway. I'm still waiting for the mood to strike me.

Attention: Vaccum owners

I am in desperate need of a new vaccum.  Something that really sucks!  My Dirt Devil days are done!!  I'm going to begin my product review search online but thought if anyone has a reccomendation for me, that would be great.

This year for christmas Teresa and I decided on what we were going to get for "us". We usually get something we want or need that we we can both use. Well this year we went "really big" and bought a new refridgerator. Ours was getting old, 16 years, and starting to act up and was becoming a pain. Home Depot was having a black friday sale so we hit it and bought one of those stainless steel fridges. It was delivered about 2 weeks later. It looks really nice. It sort of matches our oven and dishwasher at least I think so. When Teresa saw it she said it looks good but dosen't match the oven. I said we are not getting a new oven. Well..... that was all it took. About 2 weeks later I went to turn on the oven and it wouldn't work. The stovetop still works but not the oven. Then I remembered the conversation we had. We jynxed ourself. Jyynnxxxxeeed!!!!!!!!!!! The new part to fix the old oven is 250 smackers. The service call is 50. And who is to say that is the real problem. So our new stainless steel oven will be here in a week. Now our oven hood or vent will not match. We or I had a hard time getting the original hood hooked up. I think I am going to paint it black. Can I borrow some duct tape to tape up our mouths. No more talking about appliances.

We have a major hole in the ceiling in the family room. Then last night the toilet in the hall bathroom just decided not to flush anymore and we had backup in the bathtub. Daryl Weech came this morning, and after using a 75ft. snake, and several hours, it is still not working. We can't even use the sink in there. Much fun going on here.

She has a job!!  It's at Fry's.  She bags groceries and gathers carts in the parking lot.  She's not thrilled to have a job, but she likes driving and getting a paycheck.  We have TWO, yes TWO girls who work at Fry's.  If I ever need something from the store, chances are one of them is working that day and can bring it home for me.

Colby

This is him on his 13th birthday. The braces have been gone for awhile now. He's always had luscious hair. I used to have luscious hair, too. Age has played a cruel trick on my hair, what's left of it anyway.

This is him last night at age 16. Hard to believe he's that old. He's a good kid. Smart, funny, and happy (most of the time). He came into the world his own way -2 1/2 weeks early, and by c-section - and has been doing things his own way ever since. I can't wait to see where he ends up in life because he has a lot of potential. We love you Colby and Happy (yesterday) Birthday!

Overdue

Yes, Yes, we need a liitle blogging, right this very minute!
We are all overdue with posting on this blog.  In all fairness though, we are fewer in numbers than the Hancock Women.  But we can still git er done.  Thanks for the pep talk Bev, much needed!!
  So I'll go ahead and share some of this and that.  We have been to the movies lately.  We took the two younger ones to see Tron.  I was not looking forward to it and had very low expectations of liking it.  I got a giant soda to drink ( I know not to do that because of my ever so tiny bladder) but I was so enthralled in the movie that I didn't want to leave to go to the bathroom and if it weren't for the fact that I was starting to sweat because I had to go so bad I would have stuck it out.  I surprisingly enjoyed it.  I don't remember the original Tron at all, maybe I didn't even see it.  I couldn't help noticing the similarity of the creation and God and His Son and Satan.   Anyone else notice that too?  But I have to hand it to Jeff Bridges for having two movies out at the same time, which leads me to my next movie:  True Grit.  Seen it??  I enjoyed this one as well.  I thought it was very well done.  I didn't really remember the original one either.   So the other night when True Grit with John Wayne was on TV, I was excited to see it.  The girls, not so much.  But they suffered through it and are the better for it.

Ok this is getting ridiculous! No one is posting anything new! (myself included of course) Are we that boring? Tired? Can't find our keyboards yet underneath all the Christmas wrapping paper? Whatever the reason, let's commit to making the New Year a better one for the Boren Blog! Give me a 'B'! Give me an 'O'! Give me an 'R'! Give me an 'E'! Give me an 'N'!

So I propose that each member of the Boren team (Mom, Dad, Darvil (yes you, Darvil), Becky, Shaleice and myself each do at least three blog entries per month. That's not that many but together that would be 18 new entries each month to enlighten, enrich and enbrighten our days. It would make it more fun to get on the blog and see what's going on with everyone. Let's follow the Hancock example!!! Just put little snippets of news, jokes, recipes - (Mom, I know you have some good ones!) or whatever! Tell us about your weather! Tell us about your trip to the grocery store! Tell us what you dug out of your belly button for goodness sakes! Just POST!!! Do you accept the challenge, team?! Can we do it? YES we Can! (That's from Dora the Explorer, by the way).
