Ward Split

Has anyone been in a ward when it was split? This is my first time. We experienced a stake division a year or so ago, and that was interesting. Our ward was given an addition of a new neighborhood at that time that made our ward huge. Not to mention the fact that our ward boundaries have an apartment building and two townhome neighborhoods also, we have just been bursting at the seams. So last Sunday they split our ward and another ward and created a new ward. Some of our long-time ward members were severed from us. It's like they chop off one of your arms! I lost three of the four people I visit-teach, and I'm the only counselor left in the RS presidency. (we had three counselors, we were so big, now the other two and the secretary are gone!)
And now that our stake has a new ward, there is a shortage of building space, so our ward now goes to Boulder City for our meetings. Wow! Changes, changes. It's all good though - it means the church is growing. Life moves on, and people adjust. It'll be nice to actually get to know everyone in our ward boundaries -- to be able to walk down the hall and actually know everyone's name or at least recognize them! To be able to get a seat in Sunday School will be a rare treat, and be able to get a soft seat in sacrament meeting without getting there 20-30 minutes before! (You all know that's not my style!)
That's probably the biggest event we've had lately. Nothing really otherwise. I think the winter blues has mad everyone get lazy and tired. Come on, Spring!

Snow much fun!

A few weeks ago we went up to Grandma Shirley's in Munds Park to help her get some snow off her roof and fix the leak that was dripping down her walls. It was cold and there was alot of snow, obviously. The girls had a great time playing. Emily even got up on the roof and helped a bit until she was banished for falling down too many times. Phillip worked really hard for several hours. He was pretty much a popsicle when he was done. We somehow left his sweats to change into at home. So he had to wear a pair of Shirley's home. I wish I had a picture of that. Funny! No, these are not from my camera. My camera is being dumb. Shirley took these. I think she'll be glad when winter is over.

A Recipe to Try

I love one-skillet meal ideas, they're so easy to make and clean up. So when I tried this one and my family liked it, I thought I'd pass it along.

Beef Taco Skillet

1 lb. ground beef 1/2 c. water

1 can tomato soup 1/2 c. sour cream

1/2 c. salsa 6 large flour tortillas, cut into 1" pieces

1/2 c. shredded cheese

Cook beef in a 10" skillet until browned. Drain fat. Stir in soup, salsa, water and sour cream. When combined, stir in tortillas. Heat to a boil. Reduce heat to low and cook for 5 minutes. Stir. Top with cheese and let melt. (The recipe said you could also use corn tortillas instead of flour tortillas)

Can WE Sleep at YOUR House !!!!!!!

Crazy things people do. I cleaned out my office desk yesterday and had some papers I didn't want to just throw away because of the personal information on them. No shredder. So I brought them home to burn in my woodstove. After the fire had been going awhile, I picked up a bunch of papers(about 1 inch thick) and opened up the woodstove door and threw them in. About half of them immediately slide out and I couldn't close the door. Then they all caught on fire. Smoke was bellowing out of the stove into my house. What to do?? It would be awhile before they burned down enough to close the door and by then my house would be full of smoke.
So why wait. I opened up the door and all the burning papers fell out onto the floor in front of the stove. Smoke and I mean alot of smoke was going everywhere. We opened up the french doors and I swept the mess outside. 3 smoke detectors were going off. I was inhaling smoke and sweeping like crazy. Swept the mess out onto the backyard grass. With the french doors open smoke was gushing out of my house. I looked around to see if any neighbors were watching. I went back inside and had to take out the batteries of the smoke detectors to get some peace. We cleaned and swept and opened up all the doors and windows to air the house out. I even went and got a big floor fan and put it in front of the door to help circulate the air. Anybody know how to get rid of smoke smell???? I will probably shampoo our carpets when I get home. That is, after I buy a paper shredder........

Beards, Basketball, and a Blue Uniform

This is Rob's beard that he started over Christmas break. He looked quite good in it, even though he had more gray than he would have liked. Got a lot of mixed comments from friends, ward members and patients, one of which said it made him look mean. That in combination with less kisses from his wife (it hurts!) made him shave it off the other day.

This is Eli's trophy from his basketball awards night. He got the award for being the kid on the team that makes everyone smile, because he always has a smile, even when he got a cramped muscle in his leg during one game that looked like he had an orange under his skin. Everyone loves Eli.

This is Brady's uniform he wears to his EMT class he's been taking. He looks quite official, don't you think? They say women are suckers for men in uniforms. If he gets more dates now we'll know that's true. Although he's too busy to date these days. There's a catch-22 for ya.

Baking Day

This is an unusual day for me.

I only had one place to go this morning.

I am baking homemade wheat bread.

Cooking some good ol' beans.

Baked some chocolate chip walnut cookies.

It's good to slow down and do some old fashioned cooking.

Sure am glad I have new fashioned appliances to make it easier.

BELLA

This is little Bella, who left our home to go to her new owner on Saturday. How sad.
We just had their shots & got them weighed. Bella & a brother weighed 1.5 lbs, the little girl weighed 1.2 lbs. and "The Boss", the biggest, weighed 2 lbs. I can't believe it was 6 weeks ago that they were born. How time flies. I have enjoyed these puppies, even tho they and Lulu have been a lot of work, worry, and expense. I will miss them when they leave the nest.
